Head's Introduction

Woodlands School Great Warley

Aims of the school

The school aims to combine all that is tradfitionally best, together with progressive and forward- thinking ideas, to enable pupils to become socially responsible citizens and life-long learners.

The school seeks to foster curiosity, independence and a love of learning in a happy and safe environment. This will allow the pupils to achieve their full potential in personal, social, spiritual and academic development.

Woodlands is a co-educational school set in attractive spacious grounds with excellent facilities for outdoor activities. The School which was established by Mrs Potter nearly sixty years ago has grown over the years and the current Head Teacher is Mrs Barbara Harding.

Woodlands Great Warley provides an environment in which happy, healthy children may grow and develop both academically and socially so that each child reaches their full potential and moves forward in the world as a confident, well rounded individual. Great Warley caters for children between the ages of three and eleven years.

The children are offered a wide curriculum including Numeracy, Literacy, Science, ICT, Humanities, Art, Design Technology, Drama, Music, French and Spanish, Games, Gym and Swimming.

Children are also encouraged to take part in a wide variety of extracurricular activities and to share their talents with the wider community through performances and competition.

Woodlands Great Warley has specialist teachers who encourage our children to develop their sporting, creative and language skills.

Our facilities include a gym, swimming pool, cross country track, nature trail, Drama and Music rooms.

Woodlands School Great Warley is situated in the charming village of Great Warley. Originally known at "Wareleia", the village is Anglo-Saxon in origin and was mentioned in the Doomsday book in 1086, when the population was just 38. The village is the third highest point in Essex at 368 feet above sea level. It is an area surrounded by parks and has many scenic walks within the village itself making it a primary location for an educational site.

'The school is alive with a natural and generous way of living.'

"We can't thank you and your staff enough for all they have done and continue to do for our girls. They have grown so much academically and in their confidence levels as a result of the tremendous care provided them at Woodlands. There are so many reasons we will miss our English 'home'. We know that it will be difficult to find a school that matches Woodlands' standards of achievement and care."
